Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Please tell me more about being your “partners in care.”

“Partners in care” means that the JFS Care at Home team, clients and family members all work together to develop a service plan that reflects individual care needs. Beginning with our first contact, we will talk with you about your needs and together determine the appropriate type of care: hourly companion, home maker, personal care assistant or live-in caregiver. We will remain in contact to assure that the service plan and schedule continue to reflect your family’s needs. Our goal is to help you or your family member remain independent and happy at home.  Learn more about our Care Packages.

Q: Are you a registered agency?

Yes, we are registered as a homemaker-companion agency with the State of Connecticut, Department of Consumer Protection. The JFS Care at Home LLC registration number is HCA.0000490.

Q: Please tell me about the standards for your caregivers.

We seek caregivers who are experienced working with older adults and others who need care. Many are certified nursing assistants or home health aides. We look for caregivers who understand the needs of older adults, are warm and responsive to their clients, and are proud of the work they do. Caregivers are our partners in care.

Our employees undergo thorough and complete multi-state criminal background checks. They are bonded and insured. Care at Home handles payroll, taxes and social security deductions.

Q: Do you provide supervision for your caregivers?

CAH provides a thorough orientation covering program policies and procedures, as well as expectations for each specific caregiver-client relationship. We stress communication as a key component in working with our caregivers. We do this through routine calls and home visits. Ongoing contact between our partners in care enables us to identify on-the-job best practices, as well as any issues impacting client care.

Q: What happens if we have an emergency?

For medical emergencies, call 9-1-1 or your physician. For non-medical emergencies occurring after regular business hours, clients and caregivers can contact the on-call CAH staff member by calling our after hours contact number. CAH IS AVAILABLE 24 HOURS A DAY, 7 DAYS A WEEK.

Q: Does insurance cover your services?

Long Term Health Care Insurance may pay for services, depending on the policy and the clients’ needs. If your long term care insurance policy does cover the Care at Home services we offer assistance with the reimbursement process for a small fee. Other insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid, typically do not pay for CAH services since we offer non-medical home care services.
